The blue flag distinction, is awarded for the quality of the water, hygienic conditions and services for tourists.

Although the city itself is only Port, it includes part of La Manga del Mar Menor. Cartagena has the record of being the Spanish town with the most beaches certified with the “Q for Quality” by the ICTE It has a total of ten, which are listed below:

Las Marinicas is the widest and the biggest at nearly 3km long is El Algarrobico which is on the road to Mojacar.Los Muertos is a nudist beach and can be reached by a 1 km hike or by boat.
Los Muertos and El Algarrobico form part of the Natural park at Cabo de Gata.
