Roquetas de Mar
From the 23rd August to the 1st September Almeria has a fair in honor of Our Lady of the Sea,
with the traditional Flamenco Festival in the Plaza Vieja, Which always runs into the early hours.
Tourism is big business in Roquetas de Mar, with loads of shops selling local crafts interlaced with a number of restaurants and bars, and a multitude of activities on offer from sailing and scuba diving to horse riding. Roquetas has an 18-hole golf course at Playa Serena. It also has a specially designated nudist beach.
You can explore the ruins of the medieval Castilla de Santa Ana and other historical sites in the area.
Roquetas de mar is part of the Natural Park and its marshes attact many species of bird. Bird-watchers can find flamingos who come here to breed,and egrets and avocets gathering.
A small marina surrounded by Tapas bars and restaurants specializing in fish dishes, is a good place to while away the day. For the more active there are excellent activities available.
You can practice all kinds of aquatic sports such as water-skiing, jet-skiing, swimming, fishing, diving, boating and yachting.
There is also a small road-train for tourists to explore the town or you can hire what can only be discribed as a small lawnmower powered dune buggy from a store near the sea front. There is also a play area for the children close by.
